Shamrock Run 2011

I completed my first race EVER on Saturday and it was so much fun! Originally I was going to run with the wife of one Jeff's coworkers but her and her husband decided to run the 5k. I had already committed to doing the 8k and was sticking to it!

I had already geared myself up for running the race solo but while I was waiting for the train downtown there was another woman standing next to me alone. We both probably stood out like sore thumbs because I swear everyone was with a group except us!  I can't remember how we started talking but turned out she was also running the 8k and her husband had backed out on her the night before (my husband was going to be a spectator but really enjoys his sleep so I lost my one fan to sleeping in!).  Fiona and I had a similar pace so we were able to stay with each other the whole 4.97 miles :)  After we finished we were able to grab a free drink for finishing the race and a cup of hot salmon chowder from one of the local restaurants together and rode the train back to where we parked.  I'm so thankful that I made a friend at the race, I definitely don't think it would have been as fun!

This is after I came home, I got home around 10:30 and my husband was still sleeping :) He promised he would take a race day picture of me - here it is, taken from our bed!

I ended up finishing 321 of 392 with a total time of 57 min 17 sec, WAY better than what I thought I would do!  The number 1 girl in my age group ran the 8k in a little over 28 minutes...whoa.  I am excited about more races in the future :)

Christa! That is so awesome! I am so proud of you for 1.) doing it, 2.) sticking to your guns and doing the 8K 3.) not chickening out when the people bailed on ya- including Jeff- the punk! SO AWESOME. And great time! :0) You have inspired me to get my butt in gear and do a run- even if it's only a 5K! When are we doing the 1/2 marathon? This year, right??
